Making your wills, deeds and documents accessible.

I was approached by the CEO and founder of the Australian Registry of Wills Deeds and Documents to help redesign their entire digital solution from the ground up - in 8 weeks. This was a challenge, but an exciting one! This product offered a unique service, which helped to reduce stress and confusion when it comes to searching for and lodging wills, deeds and documents. Typically, these documents existed in physical locations, prone to being misplaced, or worse, destroyed.

TAR offered the ability to create and account and either upload a copy of these documents, or alternately, upload and record their location and custodians. This, along with the ability to search the register to see if their family had uploaded important documents, formed the basis for the redesign.

The Approach

User research highlighted two key points:

 - People did not often think about where they would store important documents such as these and;

 - They assumed when they needed access, that places such as the probate office would help to locate these documents.

Neither of the above statements are true, and this formed the basis of the redesign. I created a component-based step-by-step process to upload, and search for these important documents, with critical information being provided along the way.

I mapped each customer journey touchpoint, and reviewed how we could provide information in a clearer, more approachable way. This included utilizing tooltips for tertiary information that could provide contextual information, as well as a new 12-column grid with a left-to-right input field design, to naturally guide the user through what information was needed.

The Products

There were three key pillars to the product:

 - Users needed to be able to search for documents;

 - Users needed to be able to register their documents, or document locations;

 - Some businesses needed to be able to store and track their clients documents.

One thing that I kept front-of-mind during this project, was to only present users with information that was critical. Not overwhelming users was the top priority.

I used the Carbon Design System as a basis for many of the components, and altered them where it suited the user experience or business needs to ensure maximum accessibility and a trusted, reputable aesthetic.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, traditional custodians of the land upon which I live and work. I pay my respects to elders past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge that this land was stolen and never ceded. A portion of my profits go towards Aboriginal charities as a small part of reparations. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
